BIOGAS PRODUCTION PLANT

Betaprocess is a patented technique that increases the substrate’s digestibility and strongly reduces the time-consuming hydrolysis phase of fermentation processes. Subsequently, the total fermentation proceeds much faster and more efficiently, generating considerably higher yields and an improved process efficiency.

Betaprocess is not a fermenter, but a pre-processing unit that easily can be integrated into your existing production process or development plans.

Betaprocess offers significant benefits when producing bio-gas or bio-ethanol. Subsequently, Betaprocess is expected to play a considerable role in profitable extraction of bio-components from biomass, in the near future. This is an important step towards a profitable bio-based economy.

Efficiency improvements that can be achieved using Betaprocess:

In case of bio-gas production:

  • up to 10-15% higher bio-gas yields
  • more effective gas mixture with a 5% higher methane content
  • strongly reduced fermentation time (up to 50%)
  • considerably less digestate (up to 50%)

In case of bio-ethanol production:

  • up to 12% higher ethanol yields
  • addition of enzymes superfluous
  • 10-20% lower investment costs

With the support of the ZigZag Foundation and the Province of Zeeland, studies have been carried out on the functioning and optimization of the Betaprocess in a digester that mainly processes foodstuffs and residual flows from restaurants and hotels to see what difference this makes compared to sugar beet and maize.

The conclusion of the conducted research and the endurance tests confirm that the Betaprocess is a unique and optimal method for the pre-processing of organic material whereby the composition of the processed material changes, resulting in a better fermentation into biogas. However, it appears that this effect is linked to certain conditions. If the installation is added to a digester such as Bewa that generates all kinds of organic material biogas, the effects will not be as optimal as when “fresh” organic material is processed.

It has also been shown in these tests that the fat content is an important factor in getting the effect (breaking open cells) with the Betaprocess. From a financial point of view, the installation of a Betaprocess at existing digesters such as Bewa, where many different pre-treated food residues are processed, is economically unrealistic due to the long payback time. But installing a Betaprocess immediately in a new installation (for Bewa material) does offer perspective.

There are also opportunities with existing installations where “fresh” biomass is processed. The installation of a Betaprocess for new digesters to be built, where the investment amount is part of the entire investment, will certainly be profitable.

If the Betaprocess is purchased for an installation that processes, for example, maize and sugar beets (with or without manure), the results are significantly better.

Betaprocess is a patented technique in which the hydrolysis phase of fermentation processes is greatly shortened. This makes the total fermentation process much faster and more efficient than before. This results in significantly higher yields and a strong improvement in yield.

Betaprocess is not a digester, but a pre-process installation that can easily be integrated into an existing production process or new construction plans. Betaprocess offers significant advantages in biogas production. Examples of the efficiency improvements that can be achieved with Betaprocess:

When producing biogas:

  • up to 10-15% higher gas yield
  • more effective gas, with a 5% higher methane content
  • greatly reduced fermentation time (up to 50%)
  • significantly less digestate (up to 50%)
